Pakistan vs New Zealand ODI Series
Pakistan announced the 20 Players ODI squad for the New Zealand series

Pakistan cricket Team selector MUHAMMAD WASEEM have named a 20-player squad for the three ICC Cricket World Cup Super League One-Day Internationals against New Zealand, which are going to be played in Rawalpindi on 17, 19 and 21 September.
Uncapped wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris, Seam bowlers Mohammad Wasim and Shahnawaz Dahani, and wrist-spinner Zahid Mahmood have been named in the Pakistani squad, while middle-order batters Iftikhar Ahmed and Khushdil Shah get the recalled.
Iftikhar’s seventh and last ODI was against Zimbabwe in Rawalpindi, while Khushdil’s only ODI appearance was also in the tied match against Zimbabwe in Rawalpindi.
Players who were part of the ODI series against England in July but have failed to retain their places include Haris Sohail, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Sohaib Maqsood.
Chief selector Muhammad Wasim said the series against New Zealand is "extremely important" for Pakistan as the matches are part of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 qualification.
"While we have tried to put together a formidable and balanced unit, we have continued to ensure that we give opportunities to high performing players while looking into the future so that we can develop strong bench strength," he said.
“Shahnawaz Dahani was unfortunate to miss the selection for the England matches as the squad was announced before the start of the remaining 20 HBL PSL 6 matches. Hence, he was a straightforward selection when we sat to discuss and finalise the side for the New Zealand series. We have also given a continued run to Mohammad Wasim, who impressed everyone in the T20Is against the West Indies."
He added that Zahid Mahmood has been added to support Usman Qadir.
"While picking him, we took into consideration that he had excelled last time he played in a white-ball match in Lahore against South Africa. Although this time the format will be different, in domestic 50-over competitions he has shown through his performances that he has the temperament to also perform in ODIs."
He continued: "Mohammad Rizwan remains the first-choice wicketkeeper, as such, it has been decided to include 20-year-old Mohammad Haris in place of Sarfaraz Ahmed."
This is not only to reward Haris for his outstanding domestic performances in the previous season but also to give him a taste and flair of international cricket along with its rigours and demands and to ensure that we continue to groom young wicketkeepers who are fit and ready to step up when the opportunity presents itself, he said.
"Middle-order has remained our concern and, as such, after trying a few options, we have decided to give another run to Iftikhar Ahmed and Khushdil Shah, The two batters have played sufficient 50-over cricket at the domestic level and boast the required firepower to utilise the slog overs. We are optimistic they will come good in home conditions."
“I know a few players will feel disappointed at missing out on the selection but we have a busy season of cricket ahead, which means there will be ample opportunities down the line for everyone to put up strong performances and push their case for national selection.”

PAK vs WI 1st Test 2021
Preview
After the disappointment in the four-match T20I series, where three matches were washed out in Guyana, West Indies and Pakistan are now set to enter their first battle in the World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle. Unfortunately for both sides, rain could well have a say in both Tests and could hamper their first steps.
The last time Pakistan were in the Caribbean, they clinched the three-match series 2-1 after a dramatic end to the final Testwhich ended with Shannon Gabriel's brain-fade moment. Pakistan managed to stage the perfect farewell for the retiring duo of Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan. Plenty has changed since then
Misbah is now the head coach of Pakistan and chasing the target of series wins in West Indies both as a coach and a captain. Jason Holder is no longer the West Indies captain and the reins have been handed to Kraigg Brathwaite. Each Test now carries more significance given the WTC and both West Indies and Pakistan will look for improvements after a disappointing show in the inaugural cycle. Pakistan finished fifth ahead of West Indies as COVID-19 pandemic also played a part in their positions.
Babar Azam feels his side should guard against complacency as each and every point is going to count for them to make it to the final. Pakistan do start as favourites but things could change pretty drastically if they do have a poor start to the series.
West Indies vs Pakistan, 1st Test, 10am local time, 8pm PST
Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica
Expecting: Some amount of rain. Babar even went to the extent of urging authorities to look up alternatives so that matches are not affected too much by weather hindrances. The last Test at the venue was in 2019 when India hammered West Indies by 257 runs. The bowlers should expect some help from the track.
Team news:
West Indies: Chemar Holder and Shamarh Brooks have been recalled for the series while Gabriel continues with his injury recovery.
Probable XI: Kraigg Brathwaite (c), Kieran Powell, Shai Hope (wk), Kyle Mayers/Shamarh Brooks, Jermaine Blackwood, Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Rahkeem Cornwall, Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, Chemar Holder.
Pakistan: The visitors have named their 19-man squad for the series with Haris Rauf and Mohammad Nawaz allowed to return home to spend time with their families.
Probable XI: Imran Butt, Abid Ali, Azhar Ali, Babar Azam (c), Fawad Alam, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Hasan Ali, Yasir Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Nauman Ali/Mohammad Abbas, Faheem Ashraf/Naseem Shah.

"Quite a few players said they didn't get any work done in their home territories before they came to this camp and four-day game. It's disappointing to know they've gone home and there's nothing done. They have to come back and we've got to start from scratch when we get here, so it's a little disappointing" - Phil Simmons.
"Jamaican pitches provide a good challenge to the batters hence our batters need to come to the party and display their true potential and calibre in the two Tests. They have performed well this year and it is now time to take that confidence into the Test series and put up an improved and enhanced performance" - Babar

Pakistan vs West Indies
PAKISTAN TEST SQUAD
Babar Azam (captain) (Central Punjab),
“Looking at the likely team composition for the two Tests and giving preference to wellbeing of the players, it has been agreed to release Haris Rauf and Mohammad Nawaz so that they can return to Pakistan and spend quality time with their families," said Babar Azam as quoted by a PCB press release. "This will also give them a few extra days to relax, regroup and recharge for the commitment ahead, which commence with the series against Afghanistan."
In the last meeting between the two sides in Test cricket, Pakistan had famously triumphed West Indies which was also the last series of stalwarts Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan. The series is also remembered for Yasir Shah famously bowling out Shannon Gabriel to seal the Test series for his side.
According to the Pakistan captain Babar Azam, away Test series are always a challenge while the Test format doesn't let any sort of complacency coming in the way.
“Away Test series are always challenging and it is our endeavour to be a high-performing side on away series," said Babar. "Red-ball cricket is the pinnacle format of the game and is a test of skill, endurance, technique, patience and fitness. Test cricket does not allow you to show complacency at any stage and this is what we will like to achieve at the Sabina Park over the next couple of weeks.
“Jamaican pitches provide a good challenge to the batters hence our batters need to come to the party and display their true potential and calibre in the two Tests. They have performed well this year and it is now time to take that confidence into the Test series and put up an improved and enhanced performance."
